Scar can be due to suturing, injury, burns, acne, untreated wounds and because of surgery. Scar gives ugly appearance and many a times there occurs changes in its shape, size & color. These even become painful sometimes. The scars develop this undesirable look may be due to natural tendency of body to produce excessive collagen; due to excessive or reduced blood supply in the healing phase of wound; or due to unnecessary stretching of newly healed area. It may also be due to differently sutured wound and the way it healed also can be the reason for different appearance of the scar. Scar revision treatment includes both non surgical as well as surgical solutions depending upon its requirements. Scar revision surgery is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that can make a scar become less noticeable.
Non surgical treatment which includes the use of fractional CO2 laser can further improve the look of the scar. However, Keloid or hypertrophic scars would need steroid injections into the scar. Certain silicone based gel, ointments or sheets also sometimes help in reducing thickness of scar along with use of specialized pressure garments.
